Damn those Dogg’d Days

“Damn those dogg’d days” is a phrase I think to myself. To my knowledge, no one else has ever or will ever use this phrase as part of their diction. Let’s break down what it means, shall we?

“Dogg’d” (said dawg-ed) is dogged and it is a play on words when combined with “days”. It references the Dog Days of Summer, when Sirius the Dog Star is visible in the (at least where I live) Northern Hemisphere. The Dog Days are the hottest days of the season, lazy and uncomfortable. The definition of “dogged” is “stubbornly tenacious”. Put it all together and “dogged days” refer to persistent days of discomfort. “Damning” these days seems like a natural response, no one likes prolonged discomfort unless they’re a complete masochist.

I’ve been thinking this a lot lately.
